Job Description

Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent classified 12-month Program Specialist 3 - Student Success Coach position in the Advising, Career, and Student Success department, within the division of Student Affairs. Primary responsibilities include providing personalized, holistic academic and non-academic support to current students. The Student Success Coaching team aims to empower and guide students to structure their time and academic responsibilities as well as grow their study skills, self-awareness, self-acceptance, reflexivity, and self-advocacy. This position complements academic advising, career advising, instruction, and current retention initiatives and serves as an educator and motivator for students.


Overall, student success coaching connects recruitment, engagement, active learning, and student success. Student Success Coaches provide strengths-based, culturally relevant, anti-racist coaching for all students, including students of color, students with disabilities, members of LGBTQIAP2s+ communities, first-generation, and low-income. We are seeking an individual who practices equity-mindedness, race-consciousness, and is skilled at forming collaborative connections with students, staff, and faculty across the college. This position will report to the Associate Director of Career and Student Success.


Student Success Coaching office hours of operation are from Monday-Thursday from 8am-6pm, and Fridays from 8am-5pm; this position may require some occasional evening and/or weekend hours and may be eligible for a hybrid schedule: three days in-person, two days remote. If granted, the hybrid schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the college.

Success Coaching for Students (55%):  

  • Provide 1:1 co-active success coaching (virtual and in person) to current students, which may include topics on learning styles, online learning strategies, time management, effective notetaking and reading strategies, effective study habits, test anxiety, and finding solutions to challenges. 
  • Co-create individualized success plans for students; revise plans as needed. 
  • Provide warm hand-offs and referrals to other college resources, departments, and community resources specific to student needs. 
  • In collaboration with departmental colleagues, develop and implement group coaching or workshops to support students? personal and academic goals.  
  • Stay current in trends and strategies related to student success coaching. 
  • Provide success coaching and success plans for return-to-college students.  
Area of Study and Campus Engagement (15%):  

  • Serve as the point of contact for designated Areas of Study for success coaching collaboration with faculty and other campus partners.  
  • Attend instructional unit meetings, as relevant, to stay current on in-class experiences and to maintain working relationships with faculty.  
  • Participate in Area of Study-related events and other campus engagement opportunities, such as classroom presentations, related to student success coaching role.  
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of campus resources, services, and academic programs to provide accurate and effective referrals.  
  • Serve on hiring committees and other campus committees as approved or assigned by supervisor.  
Outreach Support and Strategies (15%): 

  • In partnership with supervisor, strategize data-driven, proactive, and collaborative outreach to student populations.  
  • Provide timely response and outreach related to early alert systems (i.e. ARC). 
  • Engage in early alert system continuous improvement discussions.  
  • In collaboration with student success coaching colleagues and supervisor, develop and implement outreach strategies to campus community to increase knowledge of services provided to students and options for classroom engagement.  
Administrative Duties (15%) 

  • Update documents, presentation decks, flyers, and website pages as needed or assigned.  
  • Provide support with success coaching initiatives and assessment.  
  • Respond to emails and phone calls in a timely manner.  
  • Record accurate and appropriate notes within 24 hours in individual student records in appropriate database following relevant student interactions.  
  • Track information in appropriate systems as designated. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:
Candidates will be evaluated based on application materials, including the supplemental questions and personal interview(s), and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

  • Bachelor's degree  
  • Two (2) years of experience in a student success program, student success coaching, academic advising, career advising, counseling, or related support services in post-secondary education. 
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across an organization to develop, deliver, and/or assess initiatives or programs that support student success. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of student development and how to support students? college and navigational experiences. 
  • Strong computer skills and demonstrated ability to utilize technology (learning management systems, Microsoft Office Suite; virtual communication platforms, relational databases). 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a high level of self-awareness. 
  • Knowledgeable of strategies to support diverse populations of college students with varying needs, backgrounds, and situations.
