Who is Square One Prep?
We are a boutique MBA Admissions Consultancy. Launched in 2009, we love helping folks realize their business school aspirations. We’re seeking a super energized and organized Internal Partnership Manager to join us. This is an independent contractor role. It is remote. One will be paid 2X per month. The monthly rate will be based on experience. The anticipated range is $3,500-4,500.
Our work cycle is June-January (20-30hr/wk for 2 months and 15-20hr/wk the other 6 months), with extremely light work Feb-May (5-10hr/wk). We do not have set hours. You must know how to compartmentalize - work odd hours throughout the day/evening and know you aren’t working non-stop. Despite not having set hours, if the owner asks for your help with an issue/task, you must have the ability to assist or take the lead with the issue/task that day. The owner will look to you for answers regularly from 10am-8pm ET. You will answer emails/facilitate calls/gather school data sporadically throughout the day/evening. You must be a self-starter, someone who likes to stay busy, organized, ahead of what needs to be done, and keen to always do things better while making the lives of clients and those you work with better. If you love momentum, no two days being the same, and being a truly integral part of a company that is helping people change their lives, this could be a great role for you!
To learn more about us, visit There you’ll find our mission, track record, services, and how those who have partnered with us feel about us. We’re particularly proud of the testimonials, as they tell the story about how invested we are in our clients’ success. A big part of that investment is about ensuring that we function effectively as a team and employ our process judiciously with clients while also ensuring clients have the most current information on schools and the best support of our team. Your role is central to making sure that happens.
In fact, let's get to the nuts and bolts of the job:
· Partnership Management – Ensure advisors stay on track with their clients and their schedules. This is not a reactive task. You must stay ahead of partnerships - know where each is in their process and why. This is the most critical aspect of the role. This includes updating schedules as necessary to ensure they are accurate as they are client-facing, in real time. Tech issues and human errors can occur and make schedules inaccurate. Other members of Square One need to go into a schedule and trust that what is there is accurate.
· Advisor and Career Narrative Expert Management – Serve as a resource for advisor and career narrative expert related matters. You will need to get on calls advisors, clients, and both advisors/clients. You must want to do this. You must want to see matters in a holistic way and solve issues in a holistic way – before they require escalation to Square One’s owner. You must want to solve issues quickly, as teams are often working against the clock. You will need to get to know partnerships and their dynamics.
· Training of advisors to ensure they know how to do their role well and how to utilize the resources and our tech-based portal. We have great training materials. Much of the training is self-directed. But all advisors need on-going training with a person, you.
· Portal/Website/Technology Management – Help Square One’s owner handle portal related issues, which are typically time sensitive as they impact clients’/advisors’ access to materials/ schedules.
· School Research –
o Essay and Letter of Recommendation Questions Mining and Creation - create for each school as online applications are released.
o Deadlines/Interview/Decision deadline File Management
o School research - Ensure the data on our portal is always up to date – this is done in collaboration with our part-time business manager.
o Ad Hoc Questions - Quickly get answers to questions clients and colleagues at Square One have about schools and the application process.
· File Management – Ensure advisors upload final partnership files correctly and promptly into the client’s folder in the tech portal upon completing the written application work with clients. Clean files once they are added to Final Files folder so Square One Owner can then review and add them to the library as necessary.
The right person for this role has:
· strong organizational skills with a detail orientation
· an ability to multitask and both follow/adapt processes
· a proactive, scrappy mindset who believes they are above no task
· proof of managing several clients and projects concurrently
· a love for collecting data
· an interest in intimately understanding the MBA application landscape
· an ability to think and strategize/triage graphically/visually
· a drive to be very responsive. Having a natural sense of urgency is key. If you dislike bold-face emails in your in-box, great! If you are more relaxed about your in-box, this role will not be a good fit.
· an eye for creating operational and team efficiencies
· phone presence and social skill as well as empathy to support staff and clients
· grammar skills as you will correspond with clients and advisors
· patience and social grace as you will get asked a lot of questions by advisors and clients regarding what to do next, how to do X, where to find Y, or school related questions
· the capacity to handle candor as Square One’s owner is direct. She must give a great deal of emotional energy to clients daily. When sending emails internally to the team, she is abbreviated.
· an ability to see problems before they occur and mitigate them
· perspective as this job is super busy for months at a time and then not demanding at all for months at a time; be capable of appreciating both and having perspective
· CSS and HTML skills (or an interest in learning them)
· Last but not least, an unyielding interest in being a meaningful part of a team that is helping clients change their lives. We work incredibly hard here. We are decent humans who care about each other and like to have fun as we work hard. We know we’re lucky to do what we do, even on the stressful days!
Thanks. We look forward to hearing from you! You may contact Kathryn Lucas directly with interest (kathrynlucas@squareoneprep.cm). Please send your resume and cover letter explaining why you want, and are right for, this role.
