A recently established family investment office is seeking a Fund Accountant to work in a fast‐paced entrepreneurial environment. The Fund Accountant will be instrumental in supporting and working with the accounting, finance and investment operation functions.
THE POSITION This role will:
- Have a unique opportunity to work closely with the management team in defining and implementing best‐in‐class accounting and investment operating procedures and reporting to support family and corporate investment decision making.
- Assist with the financial accounting and investment operation activities related to current and expanding investment structure, including all entities managed by the family office (individuals, trusts, investment partnerships and related entities).
- Coordinate with other team members and outsourced providers in the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting for corporate and family decision making. Actively seek opportunities to provide structure and improve operations to support the office, including outsourced providers.
- Be an integral part of implementing and utilizing new performance and financial reporting system.
- In addition to the above responsibilities, this role will also assist the CFO and the Directors of Accounting & Investment Operations with daily office operational tasks on a needed basis.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES - Assist with maintaining general ledgers for individuals, trusts and partnerships. Ensure timely and accurate data.
- Coordinate and support the preparation of fund accounts, fund reporting, financial statements, financial audit reporting and/or specific family reporting.
- Carry out relatively complex investment transactions surrounding all fund investment activity/data e.g., capital calls, distributions, acquisitions, dispositions, financing, carried interest calculations, expenses, income, gains, fees, withholding, etc. ensuring they are executed according to standard policies and procedures.
- Assist in preparation of carried interest/waterfall distribution models for multiple entities.
- Collaborate with technology provider of the reporting platform and external resources to address and resolve technical issues and evaluate the potential for new features or requested enhancements. Develop reports for key stakeholders. Ensure data used for reports is reconciled in the system both daily and monthly.
- Consistently look to streamline and automate the investment reporting process, while establishing and maintaining internal control procedures.
- Work closely with the Team to manage onboarding of new public, private and fund investments to ensure they are accurately included in all internal systems.
- Gather and maintain client information for and assist in the completion of the completion of subscription documents.
- Generate financial reports and present findings and recommendations to CFO and Directors of Accounting & Investment Operations.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS The ideal candidate will be a discreet, self‐driven, detail-oriented, experienced family office or asset management professional with strong operational and financial management experience. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications/characteristics:
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND BACKGROUND - Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience. Hedge fund experience is preferred.
- CPA preferred. Master’s in Accounting or Tax is a plus.
- A strong accounting background with an in-depth knowledge of the specifics of investment partnership accounting.
- Solid technical accounting and financial investment reporting skills including the ability to aggregate, translate, and report on financial information; and to develop meaningful and effective financial reporting and forecasting processes, reports, and systems.
- QuickBooks experience desired, experience with portfolio management accounting system a plus.
- Advanced understanding of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio), with particular emphasis on Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, Charts, V‐lookup, etc.).
- Strong problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multi‐task and perform effectively among numerous deadlines and stakeholders.
- Outstanding communication (written and verbal); exceptional interpersonal abilities, team players, works well cross‐functionally.
- High attention to detail and accuracy while maintaining an organized approach to duties and responsibilities.

- This position will be a hybrid schedule, partially from the Northbrook office location and partially from home. In general, the work from home days would be 2 days per week and in office days would be 3 days per week.
