Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Farm Manager to oversee key agricultural operations. The ideal candidate will combine practical farming experience with a passion for sustainable agriculture, innovation, and a strong ability to lead and coordinate field operations.
Key Responsibilities: - Plan and oversee the establishment, maintenance, and day-to-day operations of conventional and hydroponic strawberries and blueberries including soil preparation, planting, irrigation, nutrient management, pruning, frost protection, and harvesting.
- Ensure the proper functioning of all infrastructure and equipment, including tractors, implements, well equipment, tunnels, and drainage systems.
- Manage the hydroponic growing systems (e.g., irrigation, nutrient dosing, water quality, and pH balance).
- Monitor plant health, growth rates, and yields to achieve consistent quality.
- Adjust nutrient solutions based on plant needs, growth stage, and environmental factors.
- Implement integrated pest management (IPM) techniques to prevent and address pest or disease issues.
- Collaborate with higher learning institutions, industry professionals, and product vendors to perform research and development projects and determine optimum production results.
- Supervise, train, and schedule farm staff, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with farm workers and technicians to implement efficient workflows.
- Provide guidance and support in crop management and harvesting techniques.
- Maintain accurate records of crop cycles, harvesting data (dates, yield quantities, issues, etc.) , and environmental data (e.g., temperature, humidity, rainfall, nutrient levels, etc.).
- Use data analysis to refine and improve production strategies.
- Develop and enforce quality control measures for fruit grading, packaging, and shipping.
- Maintain records and ensure compliance with food safety regulations and certifications (e.g., GAP, organic if applicable).
- Manage inventory of seeds/seedlings, substrates (e.g., coco coir), crop care products, and hydroponic nutrients.
- Oversee post-harvest handling and collaborate with distribution partners for product delivery.
- Collect and analyze data to evaluate experimental treatments and crop performance.
- Report to senior management on crop yields, production issues, and resource usage.
- Ensure practices align with sustainability goals, including water use records and responsible nutrient use.
- Manage farm budgets, procure supplies, and maintain equipment to support all operations.
- Maintain accurate records of farming activities, expenses, and yields.
- Ensure all operations comply with local, state, and federal agricultural regulations.
Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Plant Science, Horticulture, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-5 years of experience in hydroponic farming, preferably with berries or other fruit crops.
- Knowledge of tabletop growing systems and hydroponic technologies.
- Farming experience including supervision of labor
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate and maintain farm equipment and machinery.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
- Computer knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
Physical Requirements: - Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Capable of lifting up to [insert weight, e.g., 50 lbs.] and performing physically demanding tasks.
