Location: Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation, Carroll, Iowa

Overview: The Activity Director at Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive activity program designed to enhance the physical, emotional, and social well-being of residents. This role involves coordinating with various departments and staff to create a stimulating environment that meets the diverse needs and interests of our residents. The Activity Director will develop and execute individualized and group activities, ensuring they are aligned with the goals and regulations of the facility and the state of Iowa.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Activity Planning and Implementation:
    • Develop and manage a diverse schedule of activities and programs tailored to the interests and needs of residents.
    • Create individualized activity plans for residents based on their personal preferences, abilities, and medical needs.
    • Ensure activities are meaningful, engaging, and promote social interaction and physical health.
  2. Program Coordination:
    • Organize and lead group activities, including arts and crafts, games, educational sessions, and outings.
    • Collaborate with other departments and community organizations to enhance program offerings and opportunities.
    • Coordinate volunteer efforts and external entertainment, including arranging for guest speakers, performers, and special events.
  3. Resident Engagement:
    • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages resident participation and feedback.
    • Provide one-on-one support and engagement for residents who may be less able to participate in group activities.
    • Monitor and evaluate resident responses to activities and adjust programs as needed.
  4. Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate records of resident participation, program outcomes, and evaluations.
    • Develop and manage activity budgets, including sourcing materials and supplies.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and facility policies.
  5. Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with nursing and care staff to ensure activities are aligned with residents' care plans and health conditions.
    • Provide training and support to staff and volunteers involved in activity programs.
    • Attend meetings and participate in care plan discussions to integrate activities with overall resident care.
  6. Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to safety protocols and ensure activities are conducted in a safe environment.
    • Stay informed about and comply with state and federal regulations regarding resident activities and facility operations.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Certification:
    • Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Recreational Management, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
    • Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or similar certification is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in an activity planning role within a long-term care or senior living environment is preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead engaging activities for diverse populations.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with residents, families, and staff.
    • Creative problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to resident engagement.
    • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and best practices in activity programming.
  • State Requirements:
    • Knowledge of Iowa state regulations and guidelines for activity programming in nursing and rehabilitation facilities.
    • Ability to obtain any required state-specific certifications or licenses.
